FOX HILL HISTORIAL SOCIETY INC

SPECIAL NEWS LETTER

HURRICANE ISABEL, SEPTEMBER 19, 2003

The Fox Hill Historical Society, Inc. will not meet on October 11, 2003.  Several of our members are recovering from the effects of Hurricane Isabel.  The tide surge was 5 foot that put all of Fox Hill under water except the hills, Francis Asbury School’s tennis court and some other knolls and hills before unknown.  In addition to the tide, the wind has caused problems trees were downed, power lines downed, telephone lines downed.  The massive clean up is continuing today.  Trees, branches and limbs, carpet and pads, and assorted household items not to mention the spoiled fool are on the curb for trash removal.  Someone said ‘it’s like driving through a tunnel’.  All in all everyone in Fox Hill has survived the ordeal a bit nerve racked and exhausted but thankful that we are alive and well.  Hampton has been designated eligible for disaster relief by the Federal Government (FEMA).

We are thankful to God for his strength and deliverance, and Fox Hill neighbors that shared meals and their abilities with others like yard clean up, tree removal

and checking on the widows and elderly.  We needed ice and drinking water too.  The Red Cross gave free meals to those in need (lunch and dinner) at Francis Asbury School and beginning Monday, September 29, 2003 the meals were available at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church.  Insurance appointments, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Aid) appointments, contractors, and service businesses are in demand.  Everyone is waiting their turn.  Our building, (Ann’s Store had water 2 feet deep inside).  Volunteers for building cleanup Saturday, October 1, 2003 need not come to cleanup for the store has been temporarily canceled.

We will meet November 8, 2003

-our guest will be Tim Smith who will be in Revolutionary War dress (3 corner hat and stockings).  This is when William Johnson and our early ancestors first came to Fox Hill from Eastern Shore Virginia and Maryland.

-We will have our Birthday celebration (2 years old) one month late.

-We will elect Officers for the next 2 years (Beginning 1 Jan 2004 – 31 Dec 2005).
